Keep your radio, phone, computer, TV or smart speaker locked on to JOY to hear these great new tunes.

Out-and-proud Genes has dropped the ex and become single, and is celebrating it in her new release. ‘Super Single’ is a joyous pop song about living your best life, written with super sexy Brendan Maclean in NZ before COVID hit. Bouncy bass, a catchy chorus and Genes’ spot-on vocals make this a hoot. It’s absolute magic and should be on every playlist.

Mums always know best, so when G Flip‘s mum says that ‘You & I’ is pretty good, we should take notice. The Melbourne-based singer-songwriter-drummer has dropped what she calls an ‘LGBTQIA+ love anthem’ and we definitely agree with Mum. G Flip’s vocals tell the story all on their own. We reckon you’ll be falling hard after the first listen.

We’ve all known someone who just can’t get over a breakup. Melbourne-based singer-instrumentalist Chris Watts has just the remedy for people in this situation. ‘Over U’ is a pop-rock banger designed to give someone a ‘4-month wake-up call’ with its big guitar, feisty drum work and memorable hook. Shake that heartbreak off and rock on.

Tom Jay Williams, Alex Mather and Vlado Saric are Darling Brando. This Sydney-based boyband attracted the country’s attention with their debut release, ‘Beat Up Guitar’, in March and have been working hard to please their fans since. Their newest single, ‘Wild Eyes’, was written across three continents and has a familiar feel. Two of the boys might feel familiar too – Tom was in the top 10 of Australian Idol in 2008 and Vlado came 3rd in The X Factor Australia in 2016.

Northern NSW-based singer-songwriter Kita Alexander has had quite a journey in life: diving into music, giving birth at home, and helping her surfer husband back to health after he suffered a traumatic brain injury. This journey of love shows itself in her new song, ‘Can’t Help Myself’. It’s bright, summery and joyful – exactly what love should be. No matter what happens to you, love’s sunshine can make things good again.

Love shines brightly through the ninth release in Sheppard‘s ’12 Songs in 12 Months’ project. ‘Brand New’ is a fast-tempo bop about a love affair that continues to feel like a honeymoon. The Brisbane-based band, fronted by siblings George and Amy, will share the love when they perform at the AFL Grand Final at the Gabba on 24 October.

Queer singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha has spent the year working alongside others in the music sphere. The New Yorker has finally released something of her own, and we reckon you’ll be feeling it. ‘Baby I’m Jealous’ is all about the insecurities of living in the digital age, when you wish you were like others. LA-born queer singer, rapper and songwriter Doja Cat provides rap breaks for something different. Give it a go – we think you’ll be surprised and pleased.

Europe is finishing up its virtual Pride season, so we think some on-air glitter is in order. Queer Dutch singer Tally was an ambassador for Rotterdam Pride this year, and one of her special releases for the celebration was a cover of a 1982 classic by Laura Branigan. ‘Gloria’ has been given the 2020 treatment with an extra helping of glitter, rainbows and muscles for the occasion. It’s loud, camp and fabulous and we’re not apologising!
