/ Neon Nights / Interview / Show 018 / Erasure Chat

Erasure is Vince Clarke and Andy Bell.

John von Ahlen chats with Vince Clarke about the new Best Of Album “Always”, what it was like working on the SSSS album (how DO you pronounce it? Tune in and all will be revealed), his thoughts on techno, being an electronic pioneer and in a not-to-be-missed segment Vince chats about what he would be doing if he wasn’t a musician

Formed 30 years ago, the award-winning song writing duo of Vince Clarke and Andy Bell unleashed on the nation a succession of both influential and chart-topping pop anthems of the ’80s, ’90s through to today. Songs like ‘A Little Respect’, ‘Sometimes’, ‘Victim Of Love’, ‘Ship Of Fools’, ‘Blue Savannah’, ‘Star’, ‘Chains Of Love’, ‘The Circus’, ‘Who Needs Love (Like That)’, ‘Love To Hate You’,
‘Drama!’, ‘Always’ and ‘Breathe’, ensured a formidable presence on the singles charts complemented by five consecutive No 1 albums
(including The Innocents, Wild! and Chorus) and the beginning of the worldwide Abba revival, ‘Abba-esque’.

Always – The Very Best Of Erasure is a brand new compilation celebrating 30 years of the band, which brings the story bang up to date.

Always (released on Mute/BMG) will be available in a single digi pack CD and a deluxe book pack 3CD edition featuring remixes from Moby, William Orbit, BT and The Grid (Dave Ball / Soft Cell) & 4 brand new mixes.

The album includes a brand new version of ‘Sometimes’ re-booted for 2015 by David Wrench (Hot Chip, Jamie XX & Caribou).

Special thanks to Mute Records / Leo Stubbing for coordinating the interview, and of course Vince Clarke for taking the time to chat with me.

Electronically Yours, John.
