sallyA study published recently in the Lancet Medical Journal stated that Transsexual Women are 49 times more likely to have HIV than the general population World wide.  The Health and Wellbeing of Australia’s Trans community is high on the agenda for the “8th Health In Difference Conference “starting here in Melbourne in two weeks time. Joining us to shed some light on the specific health challenges of the trans community is Sally Goldner.

Then we take a look at the “It Gets Better” Video that the staff and students of Victoria University have posted on line, starring JOY 94.9’s very own, Glen Dalton.

JBallThe 2013 AFL Footy Season has kicked off in earnest, with one distinct difference to this year’s matches.   All eyes are upon the league to continue to acknowledge the existance of homophobia within the football culture.  The man who bravely challenged the AFL to take a lead in stamping out homophobia is Jason Ball.  Today Jason joins us with his Father, David Ball President of the Yarra Glen Football Netball Club.

Members of The Club marched alongside Jason at this year’s Pride March.   The measures they are taking both on and off the field, to provide a safe environment for sporting execellence to flourish, is something that the AFL would do well to embrace.   The Club is also looking for sponsors to help ensure the great work they are doing in their league can continue.

 

 

Sadly the ex-gay ministries destroyed another life permanently over the recent Easter long weekend.  Their systematic institutionalised psychological destruction inflicted on young gay men is reprehensible.  The fact that it is done in the name of “God” is simply repulsive.  Barry Taylor has spent years working in suicide prevention and is the Senior Project Officer for MindOUT! The National LGBTI Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Project.  He joins us with insights to the damage such organisations can cause and previews the “8th Health In Difference Conference “to be held in Melbourne in a fortnight.
