What would happen if Lisa and Sue were locked up together in isolation, how would they survive the pandemic, how would they survive each other.

Lisa and Sue ponder these questions while Sue becomes totally obsessed with the contents of Lisa’s pantry and fridge.  With Sue the vegetarian and Lisa a snackaterian I think they would be in for a bumpy ride.

Not only are the OWLS traversing the slippery slope of aging they are finding themselves getting more and more intolerant with incidents of public transport becoming more prevalent.

Lisa also share’s the dilemma of enjoying a night out to see a band wanting to go home early because she is no longer a “night owl”.   It’s becoming evident that the OWLS need to find newer pastimes which allows them to be in bed and rested just after dark.

When is time to hang up the dancing shoes? When is it time to forget the cocktails and head home for a milo?

With Sue busy with her new celebrant duties, unfortunately Lisa has resorted to watching reality TV to fill in some time. Lisa used to hate reality TV but has a number of new favourites much to Sue’s surprise.  Therefore, Lisa and Sue speculate about having their own reality TV show and work there way through a number of options for new show proposals.

What would you like to see the OWLS cast in and more importantly would anyone watch?

Celebrancy … a weird word that even the spell check on my Mac displays a dotted line underneath it like there is something wrong with it! Weird is perfect for Sue’s new career choice.

A celebrant is like a conductor for an orchestra, they may not be the greatest person there, nor the most prominent, or the most talented, yet they will hold everything together. They decide when to start and when to finish. When the ceremony will be upbeat or down, how loud it is, or how quiet. They decide the tempo, the beat and the melody.

The OWLS talk about Sue’s journey to become a celebrant. The study, the laws and they pitfalls associated with what to wear when adjudicating the ceremony and as usual Lisa and Sue provide their humorous spin on the topics.

Would you book Sue for your wedding or perhaps a loved one’s funeral? I would!

In typical OWL fashion, Lisa and Sue manage to look at a different approach to retirement with talk of bars and a golf buggy being the topics of conversation.

On a more serious note Lisa and Sue also discuss the upcoming 2018 Coming Back Out Again Ball which is a spectacular social event celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Gender Diverse and Intersex Elders. Being held on Thursday 25th October 2018 at the Melbourne Town Hall and hosted by Tristan Meecham it is a premier event of the Victorian Seniors Festival.

Interestingly, when we are inundated with rules, legislation and good old fashion expectations but I always have a slight compulsion to break them or at least question their validity.  I put it down to the need to rebel occasionally and not just accept everything on face value.
Rules, rules, rules, there are thousands that we must abide by over the course of our lifetime and it starts when we are toddlers, through to our teenage years and then on to adulthood.

* Don’t eat in your room
* No jumping on the bed
* Don’t talk in class
* Don’t drink before you’re 18
* Don’t leave your clothes on the floor
* Don’t speed
* Don’t litter
* No parking
* No loitering
* No jaywalking

We break the rules because we can,  because it satisfies the ego and breaking even the smallest, insignificant rule can be exciting.  We don’t even think of the potential consequences of breaking these rules at the time.
Rule makers are also important and I quite comfortably fall in to this category also.  I have a innate sense of what is right and am very particular in the way I like certain things done and I am not adverse to setting a few rules myself … oh the conundrum.
And of course Sue and I share our “rule breaking” stories in true OWLS fashion.

LEARN MORE With every generation comes the development of a language based on what is going on in teen culture.  Lisa and Sue are again at odds with the destruction of grammar, the shortening of words and the secret codes they just can’t comprehend.
What is all this newfangled slang, the text abbreviations and the joining of words to form new phrases.  The OWLS show their concern for the millennials and teens and the inability to speak and write “properly”.
Some may even say that teenagers are far from destroying English but are in fact enriching the language … the OWLS say WTF!
Lisa and Sue try to educate each other by sharing some recent text experiences and try to decipher this foreign language.

Everyone has a song or songs that have had an impact on their lives.
Lisa and Sue are pondering a new segment, yet to be named, but potentially “Soundtrack Flashback”, “Backtrack Soundtrack”, “Soundtrack Six-Pack” or something similar.
Whilst fleshing out our ideas of course the OWLS took the opportunity to reminisce about some of the songs that have been pivotal in their lives.  Songs that took them back to a particular defining moment, songs from their teenage years, coming out songs and some songs Lisa considered too daggy to share … sorry Sue, no John Denver this time!
There will be more to come from the OWLS in this space, with some special guests coming in to share their “Soundtracks”.

Speaking of impressions, Lisa shares a recent occurrence on one of her social media platforms.

It was bound to happen, but for some reason it took her by surprise.

She has been “unfriended” … is it the ultimate social media insult?

Lets face it.  It has got to be the internet equivalent of being snubbed, it’s the web 2.0 version of being given the finger.

Sue is also having trouble adjusting back into working life after an extended holiday break, is there such a thing as “holiday brain” or is Sue just getting dementia?

The OWLS discuss courtesy or the lack of it. It seems everyone is so wrapped up in their own worlds these days that no one seems to be courteous anymore.
What would you do if a work colleague is being so disruptive, talking loudly or eating last night’s pungent curry right next to your desk? Would you say something, or ignore it?
The OWLS are on their soapbox today discussing the new phenomenon of working in an agile and flexible manner.  More and more corporations are getting rid of personal desks and opting for “hot desks”.  Do you like working in an “agile” workplace or do you just yearn for your own desk and your own personal items.
Perhaps the older the OWLS get, the grumpier or less tolerant they are as they can see very little courtesy in the workplace and on public transport.  As usual Lisa & Sue have some funny situations and stories to share.
