JOY Law: Transgender youth and legal rights

JOY Law for LGBTI community and rainbow families

20 November 2017 was Transgender Day of Remembrance.

Kris and Bronwyn join Rach, Jacq and Dene to discuss legal issues related to transgender youth and minors, including:

  • parental responsibility and the role of both parents until the child turns 18 years of age
  • medical interventions requiring consent beyond normal parental responsibility
  • two stages requiring consideration and consent
  • stage one consideration relating to delaying the onset of puberty
  • stage two requiring Family Court consideration relating to the administration of oestrogen or testosterone, and
  • special evidence required when making an application to the Family Court.

JOY Law – on-air and via podcast

Kris and the team from KHQ Lawyers join Rach, Jacq and Dene for ‘JOY Law’, a regular segment where we discuss legal issues of interest to the LGBTI and ally community.
