Nevena and Macca talk to Zoe Daniel, Independent Member of Parliament for Goldstein
Zoe Daniel is the Independent Member of Parliament for Goldstein, Victoria, elected in May 2022.
She made history as the first woman and first independent to hold the seat, traditionally a Liberal stronghold. Before entering politics, Daniel had a distinguished 30-year career as a journalist with the ABC, serving as a foreign correspondent in Africa, Southeast Asia, and the U.S., where she was the bureau chief during the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
Daniel’s political platform emphasizes climate action, political integrity, and gender equality. She has introduced legislation aimed at banning gambling advertisements during sports broadcasts and enhancing online safety through a digital duty of care.
Recently she was referred to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) concerning allegations of staff misconduct related to a donor. The NACC dismissed the case in February 2025, finding no evidence of wrongdoing.
Daniel resides in Hampton with her husband and two teenage children. She is known for her community engagement through events like “Politics in the Pub” and maintains a strong presence in her electorate.
