23 Days ‘Til Rio https://joy.org.au/thatsportsshow/2016/07/13/23-days-til-rio/ Wed, 13 Jul 2016 11:06:11 +0000 http://joy.org.au/thatsportsshow/?p=51 https://joy.org.au/thatsportsshow/2016/07/13/23-days-til-rio/#respond https://joy.org.au/thatsportsshow/2016/07/13/23-days-til-rio/feed/ 0 spot1Tonight on That Sports Show we continue with the lead up to the Olympics.  There are only 23 days to go.

Australia has 368 athletes from 25 sports selected for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games to date, with the final team expected to be around 410 participants. To date the team comprises of 218 rookies.

Australia’s swimmers traditionally set the tone for the rest of the Olympic team and they’re tipped to bounce back strongly following a dismal campaign four years ago.  Cate Campbell has set a World Record in the 100 Freestyle in a final meet before the Australian swim team heads to Rio.  Jared Tallent has been announced as the captain of the Australian athletics team.

National Netball League is at the pointy end and more social media problems beset Rugby League.

In overseas news, Wimbledon champion Andy Murray has a big night but refused the traditional champions dance with Serena Williams, joking that he had not nearly had enough to drink yet.  The Tour de France is in mid-stages, and Aussie Richie Porte wins stage  10 before the peloton heads for Montpellier and Portugal wins the European Soccer Championships defeating hosts France.
