The I in Us is an Australian-based radio show about the intersex community, by the intersex community, for everyone.

On this week’s show, Paul welcomed intersex artists Houston (USA) based Tracy Postert and UK-based Lucie Corden.

Tracy Postert’s parents learned she is intersex when she was 5 years old and has been on estrogen since age 12. She didn’t learn she is intersex until age 50. Tracy became a social activist, gained a Bachelor’s degree, a PhD in bio-medicine, a Masters in Science Education, and a post-graduate fellowship -all leading to her working as a teacher and college instructor. At age 25 Tracy visited the faculty library and figured out she might have the innate variation in sex characteristics, Androgen Insensitivity.

Spending all these years in the science, medical and educational space didn’t bring Tracy closer to having this confirmed. Finally, at the age of 50, all would be revealed! At age 54, Tracy received “intersex services” from a medical doctor for the very first time. As a long-time activist this passion sees Tracy speaking up for intersex rights and using her visual art as a vehicle to spread the word about our community. This is both figuratively and practically after her van was stolen, Tracy repainted the van rainbow with a generous covering of intersex flags.

Lucie Corden is a feminine intersex woman. Her parents learned she was born with an innate variation in sex characteristics when she was 5 months old. She endured operations from as young as 12 and has been on hormone replacement therapy all her life. But like Tracy, being intersex doesn’t define Lucie. She loves life, is married to a wonderful man with a similar intersex variation. Lucie has worked as a makeup artist, visual artist, barista, and an active and passionate advocate for intersex rights.
