Simone-Lisa is a parent of an intersex son.  She is the Tasmanian Peer Support, and Australian Parent Representative for Intersex Peer Support.  Simone-Lisa Anderson is a tireless advocate working with the Tasmanian and Australian State Governments to improve lives of intersex Australians.  Further, she is the creator and project officer of Better Lives.  Better Lives is an intersex project operated by Working it Out:  Tasmania’s gender, sexuality and intersex education advocacy and support service.

Learn more about Intersex as we explore Simone-Lisa’s challenges raising her intersex son.  Hear about her experiences that fuel her commitment to changing Government, health and education policies.  Also hear about the positive outcomes of the Better Lives Project, which Simone-Lisa delivers across Tasmania.

Learn about Intersex advocacy, how to properly and respectively approach the topic of Intersex and how the Intersex flag is viewed.  Hear about the “Rainbow Tick” and the “Yellow Tick”.  Do school-based inclusion and diversity training programs cover the Intersex Community well?  Also learn more about the Darlington Human Rights Conference which started in 2017.

A warm welcome to the final part to today’s inspiring episode of The I in Us.  Paul, Little Jase, Leo and his parents chat about Leo’s later years of education, his interests now and what he is doing now. Leo now has a profound interest in the Scouting movement.  What is it that Leo and Little Jase happen to share in common?

Leo now studies Cookery at William Angliss Institute: Hospitality.  Further, not only does studying  expand on an already profound interest in cooking, it has also provided Leo with a sense of belonging.  He has come upon a supportive environment:  “I think I’m finding a lot of my people there”. (Leo on The I in Us part 4, 3rd April, 2024)

Meet very special guest to this week’s The I in Us when Paul and Little Jase welcome Leo, son to Suzannah and Rik, to the program.

Life “felt very normal to me when I was growing up.”(Leo on The I in Us, part 3, 3rd April 2024).  Leo did not know about his intersex variation, Klinefelter syndrome, until he was ten years of age.  In this episode Leo speaks about his relationship with his sister and partner, and with his brother.  Were these relationships positive and happy for Leo?  Did Leo experience any difficulty with relationships within the family unit?  Leo and his parents chat about these relationships during this episode.

Also in this episode,  the team chat about Leo’s education, particularly through high school.   Leo also embarked upon some Arrowsmith cognitive exercises.  Find out how these exercises assisted Leo.  He progressed through high school without the need for a special curriculum.

Learn about Leo’s various hobbies.  What does he enjoy?

This segment of today’s The I in Us delves into Leo’s education and hobbies.  It certainly is a definite must hear.
