Trans community push for birth certificate reforms

Victoria Parliament rainbow

On tonight’s edition of The Informer we looked at the trans debate that’s currently sitting on a tightrope in Victoria, ahead of an expected debate in parliament’s upper house next week.

Trans and gender diverse people around the state are currently pushing the house to pass the history-making reforms, that will allow them to change the gender marker on their birth certificate without having undergone sex reassignment surgery. To talk about this, we’ll be joined by lawyer Lee Carnie and trans advocate Aram Hosie.

We’ll also be joined by Working it Out spokesperson Susan Ditter to chat about raising LGBTI awareness in Tasmanian schools.

You can encourage upper house MPs to pass the reforms here: www.vicbirthcerts.com

Producers: Matthew Wade, John Nelder, and Scott Tetley.
