Deep Water – Part 2

bondi
The Informer continues from last Wednesday night’s coverage of SBS’s Deep Water, the network-wide exploration of gay hate crimes and murders that took place in NSW throughout the 1980’s and 1990’s.

Tonight Dean Beck talks to Michael Atkinson, Manager of Healthy Communities at ACON who are at working with the families and friends of those whose lives were taken.  Together with Waverley Council (Bondi) and others, ACON are planning a memorial to recognise the 80+ murders that took place along Sydney’s coastline and counselling those who may be challenged by these historic occurrences resurfacing.  People interested in finding out more about the memorial project can confidentially contact Michael on (02) 9206 2032.

Then Dean talks to Mark Whittaker, the investigative journalist behind SBS’s True Stories Podcast series 3 which explores the murders that took place in Adelaide’s beats.  Mark lifts the lid on the secret gay-men’s-business of beat culture and investigates some of the murders that to this day, remain unsolved.  Check out this great podcast series here.
