The top and tail of our rainbow spectrum and Christians 4 Marriage Equality : 30th August 2017

Sharon Fawkner, spokesperson for PFlag in Victoria, she runs Geelong for Marriage Equality and works on the Just Equal Campaign opens the show speaking at the Equal Love Rally in Melbourne on the weekend as we look at how the current conversations surrounding marriage equality are affecting the extremes of our rainbow, the elderly and the young.

A part of the community whose perspective often falls silent. Dr Sue Malta from the national ageing research institute joins us to discuss how we can be more aware of the elderly and the issues and stress being disregarded can cause.

Switchboard also run Out & About, a free service for older people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or intersex with peer support building community connections and reduce isolation by chatting over a cuppa, watching a movie, participating in a hobby, game or any other enjoyable social activity.

Won’t somebody thing of the children?

With the Coalition for Marriage’sNO Commercial coming into play Dean puts on his ‘Media Watch’ cap and looks at the misleading facts that the commercial states.

This is a stressful time for rainbow families no matter how you identify, how do you protect your children from seeing and hearing whats going on? Jo Hurst, author of ‘The Gender Fairy’ and advocate for transgender and gender diverse children joins us to share the stress and concern this is creating on many families and remind us all to think about how we are engaging.

The Australian Psychology Society has realeased some tips reminding everyone that the marriage equality debate is not just for adults. Most children will have heard about it at school, in the media or overheard adult conversations and this information can really help with creating a safer and more accepting dialogue.

With Australian Christians for Marriage Equality announcing their support for a YES vote, we talk about how this came about, and why the Christian community are standing up in support.

Dean and Chris are your hosts for this episode of The Informer
