Creating space for our communities in regional Australia

What’s it like creating a space for LGBTIQ members of the community in regional spaces that may have just one, or sometimes no queer venues?

In recent years there has been an outcry that we are losing our culture and identity when LGBTIQ venues that have been around for decades have closed in Sydney or Melbourne.

It seems kind of patronizing to members of the community who don’t live in those big cities and have the comfort of options for members of their communities.

Nick and Cam from Newcastle share insights about how our communities need to support more of regional activities as an important way to maintain our queer culture.

Dean Arcuri headed to the Carnival Day of Out and the Open, Greater Shepparton’s festival celebrating pride & community diversity and met Stephen Firns from Wangaratta, who has created an LGBTIQ social group for Wangaratta locals and gives them a way to connect and engage with other like-minded individuals and create new social pathways as well as Hayden Collins; who formed the Swan Hill LGBTI social Group brought along some Swan Hill locals to be a part of all the fun and to relaxed in a different with other community members.
