The Informer 30 April Pride CupSince its inception in 2014, The Pride Cup, founded by Jason Ball, helped to create a more accepting space for LGBTIQ people in football. Inspiring the now annual AFL Pride Game between St Kilda and Sydney, as well as rainbow-themed fixtures all over the country, including eight Pride Cups in Victoria from Hamilton to Gippsland this year, it has helped to create greater visibility and acceptance, for LGBTI young people regionally.

On the Weekend the Yarra Valley Pride Cup celebrated its 5th year and The Informer was on hand to see the games and the celebration, seeing first hand the transformative affect the Pride Cup has on communities.

Here are some of our highlights from the day with Jason Ball and Victoria’s Gender and Sexuality Commissioner Ro Allen at the welcome lunch, Bodie cheering from the sidelines and Netball Captain Chelsea Bershaw as Dean arcuri heads to the Yarra Glen Pride Cup.

Congratulations to Yarra Glen Football Club for winning the cup again 5 years in a ro, and to Glen Daniel Hurley for winning the Pride Medal as well as Olivia Angh who won the Pride Medal in the Womens Football which was won by the St Kilda Sharks and in the Netball, Yarra Glen won again with Meghan Cowen receiving the pride medal.

This segment of The Informer was hosted by Ian Muchamore on JOY 94.9
