Sabreena Lachlainn shares her dreams of sailing solo around the world with Michelle.

The amazing Dr Ruth McNair from the Northside Clinic updates Anastasia on how Victorian health care is changing to be more supportive of TGD patients. If you have concerns or complaints about the healthcare or mental health care that you – or someone you know – has received, you can contact the Health Complaints Commissioner or the Mental Health Complaints Commissioner.

We admire Kim Petras and Rain Dove  for modelling different ways to deal with transphobic behaviour.

Rowan shares his experience of airport body scans in the US, which can be problematic for trans people. The National Centre for Transgender Equality has some further information.

Anastasia shares her reflections on the experiences of LGBTIQ+ refugees, in the light of the Medevac repeal and some troubling news from Kenya. We highly recommend you sign up to the Canberra Statement on the access to safety and justice for LGBTIQ+ asylum seekers, refugees and other forcibly displaced persons.

We feature the all-trans indie band 4th Curtis.

And we ask that you consider supporting our JOY Nation campaign.

We know that sometimes it can be hard to know who to talk to if you are experiencing a mental health crisis. If you do not have family and friends living nearby or a strong local support network it can be hard to get through difficult times on your own. Whether you are in a crisis or you just feel down and need to talk to someone, it is important to know that help is available at all hours of the day and night.

There are many free mental health hotlines and mental health online support services across Victoria, which provide crisis support, information, resources, counseling, and therapy to people of all ages.

It’s a real team effort this week!

Michelle’s here, Anastasia’s back to give us an update on her life, and we’re joined by Karen (our producer) to talk all news Trans.

Miranda interviews Teddy Darling and some other members  of the team who put together SpoooOOoken Word, a queer spoken word performance that was held last Friday in anticipation of Halloween. We hear about Teddy’s passion for spoken word, and reflect on why horror (and sci-fi) can be so attractive to the queer community.

Anastasia talks about her involvement in The Outings Project, a photography exhibition exploring the coming out narratives of LGBTIQ+ people in Melbourne and the significant spaces or events that shaped their coming out experiences.

We remind everyone about Alphabet Soup – a great place of connection for the trans community and their family and friends, especially those over 25. And a ‘mock news‘ story prompts us to reflect that we don’t want to be every woman’s new ‘gay best friend’.

In the news, we see the Greens Party struggling, as well as succeeding, on issues of trans and gender diverse inclusion. We see doctors challenged by pronouns and reflect on personal experiences about how healthcare is failing trans and gender diverse people.

We were looking forward to seeing Gender Euphoria (on until 20 October) and having fun at the Globe awards. (You can see our videos from the night here).

And we reflect on the JOY Nation campaign, and why Joy matters to the trans and gender diverse community. Please support this important campaign!

Mish and Miranda chat with Mayor Steve Stefanopoulos about the City of Stonnington’s Night of Pride fundraiser for the Victorian Pride Centre.

We mourn the news of Mhelody Polan Bruno’s murder.

And we remind everyone about the importance of self care. Such as …

Playing with Mattel’s new range of gender-neutral dolls. Or dressing up as Electra Woman and Dyna Girl for Halloween! Or Thanksgiving celebrations.

We are disappointed with the latest fake news.

And delight in the success of trans women actors M J Rodriguez and Alexandra Billings.
