Show 248

Seether by Veruca Salt. Founded in Chicago in 1993 by vocalist-guitarists Nina Gordon and Louise Post, drummer Jim Shapiro and bassist Steve Lack. This is their debut single from 1994; it was on their debut album, American Thighs, from the same year.

First, Last for Everything by Endgames. 1982 single released in both 7” and 12” versions – it is their best known track.

Pop Song 89 by REM. It’s from Green, their sixth studio album. It was of course released in 1989.

Island Heart by Comsat Angels. English post-punk band from Sheffield England, initially active from 1978 to 1995. This was a 1983 single and a track on Land, their 4th studio album.

That’s Tough by Frida. 1984 – one of the few songs on any of her albums that Frida wrote herself, with help from her son Hans Fredriksson. Not fabulous but I like that she wrote it.

Safari by The Breeders. Request.

Blood and Roses by The Smithereens. Request.

Hanging on the Telephone by Blondie. Request.

Help Yourself by Peggy Scott Adams. Request.

Queer by Garbage. Request.

If you Love Somebody Set them Free by Sting.

Aussies: all new to me (mostly pretty bad…)

*Daddy Long Legs by Tumbleweed. Title track from 1993 album from this Australian stoner rock band hailing from outside of Wollongong. They’re made up of the three Curley brothers: Dave on lead vocals, Jason on bass guitar, and Lenny on guitar; with Stewart Cunningham on lead guitar & Richard Lewis on drums.

*For 1000 Years by Sea Stories. 1990 single from their album of the same year, Miller’s Pond. Their second of 3 full length studio releases between 1986-93; it was from 1990.

*Everybody’s Getting a 3 Piece Together by The Fauves. 1995 single release that doesn’t seem to have had an album release. They’re still going strong after 27 years together – they’re from Melbourne.

*Nites Like These by The Hollowmen. This song is from the mini album Blues Trains and Gravel Lanes, released in 1986. They were a Melbourne band active from the mid-80s till the mid-90s and made up of Billy Baxter, D.J.Butler, Mal Stanley, Jon Von Goes, and Paul Johnstone.

*Regrets by The Glory Box. Melbourne band active from 1988 till 1993. This was a 1989 7” single release given away at The Punter’s Club, presumably here in Melbourne.

He died in 2010 of peritoneal mesothelioma. This track is from his 1983 solo album, Duck Rock.
