Playlists

Show 249

Two and Two by Jesus Jones. From Doubt, their second album, which they released in 1991.

Girl in Trouble (Is a Temporary Thing) by Romeo Void. San Francisco band formed in 1979. The band primarily consisted of saxophonist Benjamin Bossi, vocalist Debora Iyall, guitarist Peter Woods, and bassist Frank Zincavage. This was their biggest hit, released in 1984 from their fourth studio album, Instincts.

Paint it Black (live 1990) by The Rolling Stones. Request.

Telephone Operator by Pete Shelley. Request.

*What’s my Scene by Hoodoo Gurus. Request.

Fantasia Bulan Madu by Search. Request. (Malaysian 80s band)

I Love Rock and Roll by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Request.

All Day All Night by Jill Jones. Request.

Love Will Never Do Without You by Janet Jackson. Request.

With God on Our Side by Wire Train. Originally formed as the Renegades in April 1983 in San Francisco. They were with the same record company, 415 Records, as Romeo Void, my previous artist. This is a cover of a Bob Dylan tune from their second album, Between two Words, released in 1985.

What I Like About You by The Romantics. From their 1980 self-titled debut. They’re from Detroit and have been busy being romantic since 1976; they continue to tour today.

Aussies after playing some pretty bad, relatively unknown Indie stuff last week…here are tracks from Australia’s top albums (from my era) according to TripleJ.

*Israel’s Son by Silverchair. The first track on their 1995 debut album, Frogstomp, which was listed by TripleJ as number 2 on their all time best Australian album list.

*Hell’s Bells by Ac/Dc. First track on their seventh studio album, Back in Black, the tribute to Bonn Scott, cuz he they were part way through writing the album when he died. It also introduced Brian Johnson as the new lead singer when it was released in 1980. It was number 3 on the TripleJ list.

*Guns in the Sky by INXS. The first track on Kick, their sixth album, and the only one written by Hutchence alone. It was number 5 on the TripleJ list.

*Mean to Me by Crowded House. The first track on their 1986 self-titled debut. Number 13 on the TripleJ list.

*Fall at Your Feet by Crowded House. I’m not a Crowded House fan but they had 2 albums on that TripleJ list, this one, Woodface, at 18. This is the third track (I’d already played the first, Chocolate Cake, and second, It’s only Natural, this year) on that 1991 album, their third.

*Outside World by Midnight Oil. First track on 10 to 1, their fourth studio album. It was released in 1982 and was on the Australian charts for 171 weeks! It was only 21 on the TripleJ list, though.

I Want that Man by Deborah Harry. Request.

*Heaven by Eurogliders. Request.

Torn Inside by Violet Town. I found this track, from 1986, searching for an Australian band of the same name that featured Wayne (Buz) Hissock on guitar and vocals, Warren Pitts on keyboards and vocals, Peter Van on drums, and Luke Blackburn on bass and vocals. This is a US post-punk band instead…

When Someone Tears your heart in Two by Roberta Flack. From her 1991 album, Set the Night to Music, her 13th studio album.

Lay Your Hands on Me by Thompson Twins. There were two versions of this song released as a single, a non-album version produced by Alex Sadkin in 1984 and then a year later this new version without Sadkin was released from their 6th album, Here’s to Future Days.

Tea For Two by Mambo All-Stars. From the soundtrack to Mambo Kings, released in 1992.
