Triple X Show 357 – 24/12/17 – Relive the festive season with Christmas tunes from Barb – Weird Al Yankovic/Sonic Youth/Melissa Etheridge/Queen/Joan Jett/Mariah Carey/Kylie Minogue & More

Show 357

Christmas at Ground Zero by Weird Al Yankovic. Request. It certainly didn’t mean in 1986 what it might today…

Brave Men Run by Sonic Youth. From their album bad moon rising. It features Kim Gordon on vocals. Request by Chris the Podcaster! Many, many thanks to him!!

+It’s Christmas Time by Melissa Etheridge.

+Last Christmas by Wham!.  Released on Epic Records in 1984, on a double A-side with “Everything She Wants”. It was written by George Michael.

+Christmas by Sandra Bernhard. From her 1994 album, Excuses for Bad Behaviour.

+Thank God it’s Christmas by Queen.

+Little Drummer Boy by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Request.

+Silent Night by Erasure. From Christmas with Pride, 1995.

Coventry Carol by Alison Moyet.  This is an English carol that I’d never heard till I spent Christmas 1990 in the UK.  I like her version best – it comes from the 1987 album A Very Special Christmas from A&M records, the first in a long series of pop music Christmas albums that benefit the Special Olympics.

All I want for Christmas is You by Mariah Carey. Request.

12 days of Christmas by John Denver and Muppets.  From 1979 tv special starring Denver and the cast of the Muppets…though this album version is slightly different from the tv one.

Dear Santa by The Weather Girls. 1983

Aussies

*Do they know it’s Christmas by Midge Ure and Australian Band Aid. Released in 1984 for Ethiopian famine relief, this song spawned a whole genre of charity singles, including Tears Are Not Enough and the ever-popular We Are The World.  This version: Co-lead vocals are by Glenn Shorrock, the chorus and band features Brian Cadd, Renee Geyer, Vanetta Fields, Greedy Smith, James Valentine, Shirley Strachan, John Farnham, Daryl Braithwaite, Wendy Stapleton, Kate Ceberano, members of Pseudo Echo and Kids In The Kitchen etc.

*Aussie Jingle Bells by Bucko and Champs (Colin Buchanan and Greg Champion).  1996 released Aussie Christmas with Bucko & Champs.  Colin was a regular presenter on Play School until 1999 and has actually won numerous music awards!

*The Ringing Reindeer by Johnny Farnham. Originally 1970 as Johnny Farnham but I found a 1995 Christmas album that has it…

*Celebration by Kylie (Japanese mix).  Not sure why, but it’s on Christmas with Pride, 1995 so I’m playing it.

*Silent Night by Olivia Newton John.  A version she did on a Kenny Loggins Christmas tv special…I think it was 1999.  She also did it live at the Myer Music bowl in 2000, but I like this one better.  I know, too late … but an Aussie icon from the ‘80s!

*Six White Boomers by Bucko and Champs. It’s originally a Rolf Harris tune but I figured in light of his child sex crimes I’d better play a cover…this is Bucko and Champs.

Carol of the Bells by The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. Request.

Another Lonely Christmas by Prince. Request.

I want a Hippopotamus for Christmas by Gayla Peevey. Request.

Christmas with the Devil by Spinal Tap. Request.

Hey Mitt Vinterland by Agnetha and Linda. 1980, I think.

Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses. 1981

Merry Christmas by The Ramones.

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Loretta Lynn.
