Triple X – Show 360 – 21/1/18 – Circles! – Elton John/Dead or Alive/REM/Dolly Parton/Belinda Carlisle & More

Show 360 – Circles!

Circle by Sarah McLachlan. From her 1993 album, Fumbling Towards Ecstasy.

Linger by The Cranberry Saw Us. This is the demo version from their 1990 EP, Water Circle… I can’t believe I found a track that both honours Dolores O’Riordan, who died this week at age just 46, and covers our ‘circle’ theme.

+Circle of Life by Elton John. From The Lion King, 1994.

+Misty Circles by Dead or Alive, 1983. Request.

+Going in Circles by Luther Vandross. From his 1994 album, Songs.

+Circle of Light by Ani DiFranco. From her 1992 album, Imperfectly. One of my faves from her.

+Perfect Circle by REM. From their 1983 debut, Murmur.

Full Circle by Dolly Parton. From Slow Dancing with the Moon in 1993.

Turning Circles by Judas Priest. From their 7th album, Point of Entry, released in 1981.

Circle in the Sand by Belinda Carlisle. From her second solo album, Heaven on Earth, released in 1987. She released it as a single the following year.

Spin the Black Circle by Pearl Jam. From Vitalogy, their third studio album, released on November 22, 1994.

Will the Circle be Unbroken by Johnny Cash and Family. From The Survivors Live, an album by country/rockabilly musicians Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis, released in 1982. It was recorded on April 23, 1981 in Böblingen, near Stuttgart, West Germany, when all three singers, who had been labelmates at Sun Records at the beginning of their careers, were touring Europe. The show had initially been meant to feature only Cash, but Lewis and Perkins joined him onstage on a night when they did not have a concert scheduled themselves.

Aussies – not enough and cheating at times…

*Full Circle by Little River Band. 1981, Time Exposure. The only Aussie song I could find with ‘circle’ in the title.

*Circle High and Wide by Snout. It’s really too late for us, 1998, but there were so few that I felt I had to (I have rejected a couple that were much further out of date)! Thank you, Gracia Smith, for this track! Second single and title track from an EP. Snout was an Australian independent rock band from Melbourne, 1991-2002.

*My Canary has circles under its eyes by Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band. Thank you Robi for finding this gem … from 1973. So also out of date but close…

*Run by Night by Midnight Oil. Circle isn’t in the title but it IS in the lyrics! Twice. From their 1978 self-titled album. Thank you Nan, former student of mine, who found this!!!

Circles by Joe Satriani. From his 1987 album, Surfing with the Alien. He’s American and is a 15-time Grammy Award nominee and has sold over 10 million albums, making him the biggest-selling instrumental rock guitarist of all time. Request.

Circles by Rainbow Butt Monkeys, now known as Fingers Eleven. Canadian. From their 1995 debut, Letters from Chutney.

Circle by Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians. 1988, Shooting Rubber Bands at the Stars. This album was huge when I was at university…though I never really knew why.

Warm Wet Circles by Marillion. From their 1989 album, Clutching at Straws. Their 4th album.

Crazy Circles by Bad Company. From their 5th studio album, Desolation Angels, released in 1979.

Circles by Golden Earring. From their 1989 album, Keepers of the Flame.

In a Stone Circle by Ian Anderson. From his 1995 album, Divinities: Twelve Dances with God. He’s better known for his work with Jethro Tull but has put out quite a number of solo albums starting in 1983 and most recently in 2014.

Love Circles by Squeeze. From their 8th studio album, Frank, released in 1989.

Circle of Beliefs by Slayer. From Divine Intervention, their sixth studio album, released in 1994. It was also their first album to feature Paul Bostaph, replacing the band’s original drummer Dave Lombardo. (this is awful and I stopped it after just 2 minutes)

Full Circle by Company B. 1987 track on their self-titled debut album. US girl group.
