Triple X – Show 362 – 11/2/18 – David Bowie, The Smiths, Devine, Gordon Lightfoot, Sister Sledge, The Slits & More

Show 362

Ruder than You by The Bodysnatchers. The Bodysnatchers were a seven-piece all-female band involved in the British 2 Tone ska revival of the late 1970s and early 1980s. This is their last single release, 1980.

+William, It was really Nothing by The Smiths. Request.

+Scary Monsters by David Bowie. Request

+I’m so Beautiful by Divine. 1984 single, the sixth single from her album The Story So Far.

+Overground by Siouxsie and The Banshees. Originally featured on their 1978 debut studio album, The Scream. The band re-recorded the track with elaborate, lush orchestral instrumentation with a flamenco acoustic guitar for its inclusion on the four-track extended play The Thorn in 1984. LGBTI for Siouxsie herself, who has talked about her bisexuality.

4th Gear Shift by The McTells. One of many indie artists produced by the company by the British record company, Bi-Joopiter. This one is from 1989’s LP, Cut Up.

Darling, Let’s Have Another Baby by Johnny Moped. They were a mid-1970s English punk rock group from south London, who once had Chrissie Hynde (later of The Pretenders) and Captain Sensible (later of The Damned) within their ranks! This is a 1978 single.

Normal by The Petticoats. Band fronted by German singer Stef Petticoat. This is the title track from their 1980 EP release.

Karate Hairdresser by Skinned Teen. 7” release of the title track to their 1993 EP debut.

Circle of Steel by Gordon Lightfoot. My info tells me this is from 1974 but the digital playout system here at Joy says 1975 so I’m going with that…maybe it’s from a compilation album or something.

Circle of Love by Sister Sledge. 1975

Aussies – solo artists whose last name starts with H

*Whatever goes Around by Marcia Hines. From her album Shining, released in 1976.

*Kurongk boy, Kurongk girl by Ruby Hunter.  From Hunter’s 1994 album, and performed at Womadelaide in 1995.

*Dreaming My Dreams with You by Colleen Hewett.  1980 gold single from this well-known Australian singer/actor, who is best known for her 1984 guest role in the television series Prisoner Cell Block H as Sheila Brady.

*Blame it on the Boogie by Ric Herbert. 1979 cover of this Jackson’s tune. At the age of 7, Ric was the youngest person in 150 years to be granted a scholarship to sing in the St Mary’s Cathedral Choir. He continued there to the age of 13. Today he’s an actor and voice over guy…having done 14,000 voice overs for ads and whatnot…

*The Newcastle Song by Bob Hudson.  This satirical narrative topped the Australian Kent Music Report Singles Chart for four weeks in 1975. The single version was an edit of the ten-minute live recording from the related album, Newcastle Song.

*Heart of my country by Shane Howard.  I have this track from his Retrospective album from 2004 but it’s originally from his 1990 solo album, River.

Typical Girls by The Slits. Their debut single released in 1979.

If you can do it: I can Too! by Meli’sa Morgan. 1987 single from her second album, Good Love – said to be a rip off of Janet Jackson’s What Have you Done For Me Lately? … and it does sound that way!

Just Call My Name by Alyson Williams. Request.

Your Husband’s Cheating on Us by Denise LaSalle. Request.

What’s the Colour of Money? by Hollywood Beyond. 1986 debut for this Birmingham, England-based band, brainchild of singer-songwriter Mark Rogers.

Vicious Games by Yello. 1985 single from their fourth album, Stella, released the same year. They are, of course, Swiss…like Roger.

Just Give the DJ a Break by Dynamix II. 1987 debut single, the 12” club version. They are based in Miami and are claimed to be responsible for the emergence of Electro-bass as a genre of music.
