1 July 2018 – Show 380 LAST ONE

The Final Countdown by Europe. For my last show…

Dancing Queen by Abba. Request.

+Mesopotamia by The B52s. I love this track. Played it a lot back when I did radio in the 80s. Title track to the EP from 1981. Produced by David Byrne.

Born to be Alive by Patrick Hernandez. My partner’s 14th birthday song, defining her life! Madonna was a back up singer for Hernandez and toured Europe with him back before she was a single name star.

Hasta Manana by Abba. Request.

Open Your Heart by Madonna. Couldn’t decide which one…Vogue, Holiday, Lucky Star…but this one won.

The Homecoming Queen’s Got a Gun by Julie Brown. Another favourite from my 80s radio days. Can you imagine the furore if somebody produced this today?

Jukebox by the Flirts: hit album 10cents a Dance, 1982. I can’t believe Joy owns this! Thank you, Richard!

That’s Me by Abba. Request.

Cruel to be kind by Nick Lowe. This was his best known track in the US, where it was a top 40 hit in 1979. Though in his native UK “I Love the Sound of Breaking Glass” charted better, in the top 10. And he also wrote “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding” which was famously covered by Elvis Costello in 1978.

Aussie requests

*I still call Australia Home by Peter Allen. 1980 request.

*Better Be Home Soon by Crowded House. 1988 request.

*Always and Ever by Southern Sons. 1990 request.

*Horror Movie by Skyhooks. 1975 request.

*I’ll be home on a Monday by Little River Band. Request.

*Great Southern Land by Icehouse. Request.

Queer by Garbage. From their 1995 self-titled debut. Thanks to Shadde, a student of mine at the time and he got me into them. One of the first 90s bands I appreciated.

I Still Do by The Cranberries. 2nd 90s band I like.

Don’t Speak by No Doubt. Final 90s track.

I know there’s something going on by Frida. No words required…

Never Can Say Goodbye by The Communards. Request.

My City Was Gone by The Pretenders. Love this! Melbourne better not be gone when I get back!!

+Hit that Perfect Beat by Bronski Beat. The very first song I played on Joy 8 years ago. And the last song I’m playing…for awhile.
