PLHIV Red Carpet Advocate – Karl Schmid

Health, HIV, HIV & Travel, Sex & Sexuality, Sexual Health

Australian-born TV presenter Karl Schmid can be regularly seen on the Hollywood red carpet as well as ABC news in the US. Earlier this year, Karl found himself the subject of international headlines as he shared a social media post that disclosed he was living with HIV. Since disclosing his status, Karl has quickly become a role model for other people living with HIV and a community advocate for U=U or ‘Undetectable = Untransmittable’ – meaning that people living with HIV with an undetectable viral load cannot transmit the virus.

Karl is back in Australia for the holidays and he joins Cal in the studio to unpack it all – from red carpet to red ribbons. Cal and Karl talk about his life in Hollywood alongside the challenges faced by people living with HIV including stigma and discrimination as well as the need to bring the conversation about HIV into a contemporary landscape.

This show, Episode #649 originally aired Thursday 13th December 2018.
