Tunisia: LGBT right to register

tunisia_flagBroadcast – 19 January 2016

Perched on the Mediterranean Sea, Tunisia is the only democracy in the Arab World. Despite creating a progressive constitution after their 2010 revolution, some minorities like the LGBTI community still struggle for basic acceptance.

  • In a country where same-sex relations are illegal, how do you get an LGBTI group registered by the government?
  • If you then speak out against the government, how precarious is that registration?
  • What do you do when the government tries to shut your group down?

To hear the struggles of LGBTI people in Tunisia, we speak with Amna Guellali from Human Rights Watch based in Tunisia.
