2018 is a very special Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Not only is it the 40th anniversary of what began as a protest, turned into a riot and then grew into a glittering street parade – it is also the first Mardi Gras since marriage equality became the law of the Australian land. It too came after a sometimes painful and frustrating fight, but now it’s time to celebrate – because Love is in the Air!
These are the people, the stories and the music of love in the very diverse lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer communities across the globe.
Not every country has marriage equality – indeed in some countries homosexuality is culturally unacceptable or even a criminal offence. But the one certainty in every country and every culture is that you will find love – across all sexualities and gender identities.
This is part of a massive Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras weekend, presented by SBS radio and JOY 94.9 – Australia’s first and only LGBTI radio station – and broadcast nationally across Australia’s amazing Community Radio Network.
