Colombia: Progress and Challenges of LGBT Acceptance

Alejandro and FelipeColombia is the most progressive country in South America for LGBTI rights. Discrimination was banned in 2011 and marriage equality achieved in 2016. Yet beneath the rosy legal exterior, discrimination is still evident and acceptance depends on what part of the country you live in.

Alejandro Rendon is Colombian born, now living in Melbourne. His recent marriage to his partner highlighted the progress and the challenges of LGBT acceptance in their home country. He joined us to give us an insight into LGBT life in Colombia and their transition to Australia.
