Nestled in Central America is the republic of Honduras. From turquoise waters and beachside resorts to rich agricultural country, it might be easy to miss the troubled past of this country. Drugs, wars, cyclonic destruction and poverty also form part of the Honduras story.
For LGBT people, life in Honduras has never been easy but since 2009 it has steadily gotten worse. Astrid Ramos, lawyer at Red Lesbica Cattrachas, tell us how the murder of Vicki Hernandez on the very first day of the new regime set the tone for violent deaths to become a regular occurrence for the Honduras LGBT community – and those who commit these killings usually escape the consequences.
