Angola: Homosexuality is Now Legal

Graeme ReidAn ever shrinking number of countries across the world remain with laws that criminalise same-sex relations. Many of these laws come from colonial era times where the like of England and Portugal had global empires. While the empires have crumbled, the anti-sodomy laws often did not.

The southern African nation of Angola has just updated its criminal code and homosexuality is now legal. It was not a quick or simple process, though all the campaigners agree that was worth fighting for. One organisation backing the change has been global rights organisation was Human Rights Watch, and we spoke with their Director of the LGBT Rights Program, Graeme Reid.
