Rainbow Railroad

Rainbow RailroadIn every conflict there are stories of heroes. Sometimes the heroes are hidden…their names unknown. Like underground networks who help evacuate people at risk. Even today, this goes on. And there is even an international band of rainbow-caped heroes saving the lives of LGBTI people at risk in places like Chechnya, Kenya and Afghanistan.

Rainbow Railroad is a Canadian based not-for-profit working internationally to help evacuate LGBTIQ people facing persecution based on their sexual orientation or gender identity. In the past week, they coordinated an airlift for 29 LGBTIQ Afghans to safety in the UK. Eric Wright, the Communications Officer at Rainbow Railroad joined us to give us an insight into their very challenging work.
