Africa: The Struggle for Equality, Justice and Dignity

UHAILGBT rights in Africa is a mixed bag. While a few progressive countries have anti-discrimination protections or even same-sex marriage, there are also countries that still maintain the death penalty or lengthy imprisonment for homosexual acts. And while the international community is keen to influence this, lasting change must come from within.

U.H.A.I. is Africa’s first activist-led and managed fund for and by sex workers and sexual and gender minorities. It works to change the narrative of Africa’s human rights from one of ‘foreign assistance’ to ownership and self-determination. From U.H.A.I., we speak tonight with Star Rugori.
