And if there is a front line, perhaps it is the US state of Texas. Whether it is a bill to remove gender affirming care or political directives to investigate parents for child abuse if they supported their Trans child with transitioning, the Texas parliament is on the attack.

Despite this, our guest in this podcast insists that most Texans are accepting and progress has been made in LGBTIQ rights. But rights won can be rights lost. So Johnathan Gooch is part of the team at Equality Texas fighting against a cavalcade of anti-LGBT laws.

And earlier this month, the country’s Constitutional Court backflipped to back the law.

There are very few, if any, people speaking out in support of the Indonesia’s new criminal code. Yet it passed parliament with the support of almost all political parties.
It contains some direct threats to Indonesia’s LGBT community and also some potentially hidden ones. However this did not prevent thousands of Norwegians taking to the streets in a march of solidarity. In the middle of the confusion were the organisers of Oslo Pride.

Chechnya rose to prominence when rumours began to surface in 2017 of... LEARN MORE We now know that what was going on was a purge – a liquidation – of the LGBT community with the full knowledge and perhaps even participation of the Chechnyan government. There were reports of LGBT people being rounded up, tortured and even being shamed then released to their families who were encouraged to commit so-called “honour killings”.
Oscar nominated film Director, David France, went undercover in Chechnya to capture these harrowing stories – and the inspirational efforts of the LGBT activists who risked their lives to save them. The documentary – Welcome to Chechnya: The Gay Purge – will show next month here at the Victorian Pride Centre as a fundraiser for Kaleidoscope Australia.

A new Australian initiative to create an LGBTIQA+ terminology guide in languages other than English is being created by RMIT University in partnership with the Australian GLBTIQ Multicultural Council and funded by the City of Melbourne. His followers were called Urnings and for almost 40 years, that became the main word same-sex attracted men in Germany went by. They became perhaps the first queer political movement.
