Our Track Of The Week is “Flatline” by Mutya Keisha Siobhan. It is great to finally have the first Sugababes lineup back together albeit as a new entity. But they still have that magic.

What have we seen lately ?

Film : Now You See Me : 4 superstar magicians get together to put on a combined show / robbery … once, twice, three times. Lots of Vegas hi tech effects and illusions, and it’s fun while it’s going on but it starts to lose steam near the end. Entertaining but a bit light and fluffy.

Melbourne International Film Festival Viewings ….

Stranger By The Lake (French) : This was the one with added sex, about men cruising around a remote lake, and going off into the bushes. A little slow, but then about 2/3rds though there is a death in the lake and it turns into a thriller, coming to an explosive ending. Good fun.

In The Name Of (Polish) : This turned out to be one of those movies I approached with low expectations and it turned out to be my favourite of the movies I saw. It centred around a priest at a remote country remand school for teenagers. His sexuality was ambiguous, and, yes he was accused of being a homosexual. Lots of tension, and emotions, plus and unexpected romance. Excellent.

I Am Divine (USA) : Having been a long-time Divine fan, this was a wonderful retrospective of the film, theatrical and singing career. It covered so much material and answered all those questions you were wanting to ask. Excellent.

Lovelace (USA) : Based on the book Ordeal, by Linda Lovelace (porn actress and star of Deep Throat) where she debunks the theory that she was a willing participant in her porn career. The film starts by showing how she was groomed by Chuck Trainer for a career in porn. It showed how she was romanced and the “glamorous” lifestyle, but then it show behind the scenes, the grubby dealings, the beating etc. Admittedly this film was a biased telling of the story but it was well handled, providing an excellent recreation of the times, the 70’s etc. Well done.
