Welcome to A TOUCH OF PINK, sorry we missed you last week, but hey, the election takes precedence over us, and it did give us a Saturday night off. So we’re back with a weird and wonderful batch of new pop from all around the world.

Our favourites this week are London Grammar, Mikhael Paskalev (nice legs), Natalia Kills, Krewella, Ariana Grande and Robin Thicke (hush up all you haters).

Track Of The Week is Wasting My Young Years by “London Grammar”, and their album If You Wait, is brilliant too. Well worth checking out if you like tasteful alt. pop.

Here follows tonight’s playlist. Tune in to us this Saturday on JOY 94.9 from  7pm for 26 tracks in 2 hours (yes, we know!). Your hosts are Dennis and Dick.

What have we seen lately ?

Show : Godspell : Part of a season of 3 Stephen Schwarz musicals at the Recital Centre, this a very well performed, organic production, minimal sets and props. The cast of 10 included some excellent performers and amazing voices. I first saw this performed about 40 years ago, when the theatres were full of Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar etc. It’s full of very catchy songs including Colleen Hewitts Aussie hit “Day By Day”. Now it has been adjusted for new technology, with mobile phones as props and twitter feeds projected on to the back wall. It now  seems more like a tech-savvy production performed by the Hillsong Church, which depending on your belief systems is either a good or a bad thing. Nuff said.

Film : The Best Offer : Starring the wonderful Geoffrey Rush as a very anally retentive auctioneer who gets involved with a reclusive young woman wanting to sell of the family home’s art and furniture. This was a wonderful journey through the art world leading to, well you’ll just have to see it yourself. But it is a wonderfully clever and intelligent film. We loved it.

Film: Red2 : This was just for fun, to see a group of old retired spies coming together for another adventure, and such a cast … Helen Mirren, John Malkovich, Bruce Willis, Anthony Hopkins etc. That alone was worth the price of admission, but thrills and spills were well filmed too. A popcorn film, but very tasty popcorn.

Film : Stoker : It was wonderful to see Nicole Kidman’s face close up in this bizarre story. Imagine Psycho set in Twin Peaks. But all the cast were wonderful, in particular Mia Wasikowska as a young girl becoming a woman. Spooky and tense and distrurbing all at the same time. Brilliant!
