Welcome to A Touch Of Pink, your home site for a look at the fun side of modern pop. I’ll be filling in for the Fender Bender team from 4-5pm Saturdays for the Summer Grid.

Hope you all had a happy holiday, so no more Christmas songs, and we’re back to some bright new pop to lead us into a new year and the sounds are pretty damn good. I love Grimes and Troye Silvan, Mako, Elefante, YHLZHA (see above), all newish artists, but there are some exciting songs from established artists such as Prince, Coldplay (yes, really) and Olly Murs. So it looks like another bumper year coming up.

My Song Of The Week is “Flesh without blood” by Grimes. She’s Canadian doing very commercial indiepoptronica. Edgy but doesn’t scare the horses. The whole album is a great listen. Invest a little and get a lot back.

What have we seen around town this week ?

FILM : The Suffragettes : Another great role for Carey Mulligan, as a washer woman in London in the early 1900’s trying to keep a family together, fighting against misogynistic bosses, and just generally get a bit of respect, oh yes, and the vote. Obviously an uphill battle, but she sees Emily Pankhurst speak about women’s rights and gets caught up in a downward spiral of intrigue, mayhem and eventually prison. Not a happy story but worth seeing, and reflecting on just how far women still have to go in their quest for equality.
