AUSSIE Content * GLBTIQ Content #
What have we seen around town this week ?
Show : Little Shop Of Horrors : Spectacular revival of a classic musical, like a cross between Grease and The Rocky Horror Picture Show, about a florist who discovers a new plant that grows and grows with devastating consequences. Great songs, great singing, a hoot from start to finish.
Film : The First Monday In May : Another spectacular, but this time a documentary about the preparation and staging of the New York Metropolitan Museum Of Art’s Gala Night to publicise their new exhibition combining chinese art and clothing. The Gala raises millions of $ and attracts a host of the hottest celebrities. The presentation is breathtaking as are the costumes from the top couturiers. Flawless.
Film : Florence Foster Jenkins : Fascinating film charting the rise and fall of Florence, a rich New York socialite with singing aspirations but unfortunately no talent. Alternately humorous and touching and played to perfection by Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant and Simon Helberg (Big Bang Theory) as her pianist.
Film : The Mikado (filmed live performance from The Coliseum Theatre, London : Probably the best ever performance of this Gilbert and Sullivan confection that I have seen, set in the 20’s with highly stylised costumes and settings, and some brilliant performances from the very talented cast.
Dick’s Top 5 Videos
GoldNation ft Sir Ari Gold : Turn The Night Out (another tacky $1:99 video, gives great wardrobe)
Serhat : I didn’t know (classic cocktail disco Eurovision from San Marino)
Justs Sirmais : Heartbeat (Eurovision from Latvia)
Jussie Smollett : Freedom (from Empire TV Series)
Billie Ray Martin : The glittering gutter (dj performance from an amazing talent from Hamburg)
That’s your lot ….. now sashay away …
