Dear Future Husband, A Marriage Equality Special

Welcome to another hour of A Touch Of Pink, your show for tracks with a pop trash / remix flava and an emphasis on GLBTI content/artists.

This week’s show features 12 tracks (out of 14) with GLBTI content, two of which have new albums, Peyton with the wonderful Sinners Got Soul Too, and Ross Alexander with Glitter & Twisted, a gaytastic collection of 80’s pop dance covers. Also, there is now a dance remix of Keala Settle’s show stopper from The Greatest Showman film, and emerging lesbian singer Hayley Kiyoko has a great new track.

My Song Of The Week is ‘Dear Future Husband’ (a cover of the Meghan Trainor song) from gay American singers Matt Zarley and Jeb Havens. They both have great voices, and this is a catchy collaboration, with a very topical theme. You gotta love a gay marriage anthem!

What have we seen this week ?

PLAY : Strangers in between : A wonderful play from Aussie playwright Tommy Murphy, about a very young and trouble lad from Goulburn coming to the big smoke (Sydney) looking for a life away from his constricting family. The characters he meets, a (male) nurse and an older gay gent (hilariously played by Simon Burke), are wonderfully played, and the script is excellently observed. This should be compulsory viewing.

SHOW : Riot : Hosted by Panti Bliss, but as she says, this show is not as gay as you’d think, but it is filled with interesting monologues, wonderful songs, some incredible dancing (Irish dancing to a techno version of Sweet Dreams … truly astounding), and various acrobatic and acts. Food for thought, and some luscious eye candy. What more can one want?

MUSICAL : Falsettos : A revival of a 1992 musical, set in New York, about a man, his ex-wife, his male love, the son and the psychiatrist, whom the ex-wife falls in love with. Things then get complicated …. But it is a richly observed dramedy, with a superb score, intelligent dialogue, and an excellent cast. Why hadn’t I seen this before? It is also currently starting a new run in New York.
