Welcome to another episode of A Touch Of Pink, your home site for a look at the gay fun side of trash pop.

A varied selection tonight, but all good. I love the new track from Sydney boy Cody Xeru, keep an eye on him, and Lawson’s nw single is very good too. Also another look at the gorgeous Jussie Smollet (see above) , one of the stars of the TV show Empire, and a replay of Steve Grand’s gay empowerment anthem We Are The Night. Love it heaps.

My Song Of The Week is “I love myself” from the amazing Chaka Khan. This diva has been around since the 70’s. first fronting the band Rufus, then an illustrious solo career. Now she has recorded a new song with themes of self-esteem, empowerment and anti bullying. She has asked for people to submit a 1-minute lip syncing clip, and 10 people will be picked to be in the official video, but at this stage there is only an audio clip available. It’s a great song and the voice is full-on. She still has it!

What have we seen around town this week ?

FILM : Trumbo : Starring ‘Breaking Bad’ star Bryan Cranston as Dalton Trumbo, a movie scriptwriter in the late 40’s who because of his membership of the Communist party, was called before Senator Joe McCarthy and his committee to explain his anti American sympathies and blacklisted. Based on true events, it’s a great looking, well acted film, and a really interesting plot. Worth considering.

FILM : The Lady In The Van : Wonderful movie with a magnificent performance from Maggie Smith, as a homeless lady living in a van, which she parks in various neighbourhoods, outside people’s houses. Over the course of the movie we find out what happened in her life to bring her to this situation, and a smattering of details about her past. Based on a true strory, sometimes the truth really can be stranger than fiction. Excellent.
