Show 545 / 30 April 2016
Another mixed bag tonight with a couple of oldies remixed (Elton John and Josie Cotton), plus new material from 80’s class acts Jimmy Somerville and ABD, plus new tracks from Nick Jonas and Fifth Harmony. Plus a dance remake of Def Leppard’s Pour some sugar on me, with a suitable politically incorrect video involving whipped cream, chocolate syrup, sugar and honey, though you have to wait to the end to see that … very messy !
My Song Of The Week is “Nobody does it better” from Michael Calfan (see above) , a French DJ producer. It’s categorised as soul house, and has that old school 80’s house sound and glorious vocals, a proper tune.
Here follows tonight’s playlist. Tune in this Saturday on JOY 94.9 from 6-7pm for a bakers dozen of fab-u-lous tracks. Your host is Dick.

What have we seen around town this week ?
Film : MQFF : Tab Hunter Confidential : Wonderful biography/interview film of this 50’s and 60’s film star and pop idol. He didn’t come out till later in his career, but it is an interesting study of the Hollywood studio system and how a gay man played the system. Such a hunk and also a lovely person now enjoying retirement with his partner.
Film : Eddie The Eagle : Loosely based on the true story of how a relatively inexperienced athlete got on to the British winter Olympic team for the 1988 games in Calgary. It follows his amazing trip from a small British town to the ski jumps in Calgary. This is a comic crowd pleaser and Hugh Jackman makes a fun appearance as Eddie’s coach.
Film : Midnight Special : Reminiscent of those science fiction film’s of the 80’s such as Close Encounters and ET, this is about a young boy with special abilities which a mormon-type cult group in America adopts as their saviour. He is abducted from the cult premises by his father who attempts to get him to safety. Much action ensues on the way to an interesting conclusion. I enjoyed it but it might not suit everyone.
