Andrew Velez joined ACT UP! in 1987 after seeing the devastation of the AIDS epidemic in New York City.
He spoke to Simon and Michael about the pain and suffering he watched friends endure in the early days of the AIDS response and the aim of ACT UP! to assist these people during the late 1980s.
Andrew shared his story of protest and courage to obtain the treatments these men and women needed and the ongoing fight for the breaking of stigma and discrimination amongst those people living with HIV.
