Composer Lloyd Swanton spoke with David Moyle about his AMBON suite, composed as a means of paying tribute to his Uncle Stuart who who died in a Japanese Prisoner of War camp in the Indonesian Island of Ambon, leaving only a diary of his time in the camp. The suite includes three hymns written by his uncle.
Lloyd realised that there was a story to tell and that this could encourage others to research their own family history from wartime to discover their own family gems.
Lloyd and his 12-piece ensemble will be performing Ambon at this year’s Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues on Saturday October 31 in the Wangaratta Performing Arts Center Theatre.
