Eugene Ball and the Melbourne Jazz Co-Operative (MJC) are celebrating the 90th birthday of Australian Jazz Legend, Trumpeter Keith Hounslow. Eugene popped into Bent Notes to chat about his memories of Keith and how Keith has been a major influence on Australian Jazz.
Keith moved from Perth to Melbourne to advance his career and performed for over 50 years before retiring.
Eugene has been entrusted Keith’s iconic Pocket Trumpet, an instrument that sounds just like a standard size trumpet, but being physically much smaller even though it has the same length of tubing.
Eugene and the MJC are wishing Keith a Very Happy 90th birthday at The Jazzlab on Sunday September 30 from 3pm and everyone is invited!
Eugene will be performing in three groups reminiscent of the works of Keith:
- Early Jazz Context with John Scurry’s Reverse Swing
- In Duo with Tony Gould
- In Quintet with Julien Wilson, Sam Keevers, Howard Cairns, and James McLean
More details and tickets from The Jazzlab.
Eugene Ball was guest of Bent Notes on Sunday September 23, 2018
