What do you do when your favourite Jazz Festival takes a year off? Follow Nichaud Fitzgibbon’s approach and create your own!
Nichaud has been instrumental in collaborating with John McCall to create the St Kilda Jazz Summit across Melbourne Cup Weekend 2019, celebrating Jazz in its many forms, instrumental and vocal, at St Kilda’s Memo Music Hall.
The weekend includes Jazz from the Blues & Roots, New Orleans, Dixieland, Acapella and Gospel styles and more! Included in the weekend is the launch of the Ruby Carter Lounge upstairs at the Memo Music Hall, acknowledging the legacy of Ruby Carter, the late Jazz Matriach of Melbourne and St.Kilda – a boisterous and lovable Song Stylist, who had no problems telling her audience to ‘shush’ so that she could be heard!
Kaye Bloom’s recent documentary about Jazz in St Kilda – St Kilda Jazz Stories – will also be shown during the weekend after the Launch of the Ruby Carter Lounge. Kaye spoke about the documentary with Paul Gardiner earlier this year on Bent Notes.
All the details and tickets to the St.Kilda Jazz Summit are available from the Memo Music Hall.
Nichaud Fitzgibbon was guest of Bent Notes on Sunday October 20, 2019
