Nina’s Greatest songs from Ruth Rogers-Wright

Ruth Rogers-Wright

Ruth Rogers-Wright began her career in London where she was one of the leading artists in the “New British Jazz” movement, before migrating to  Australia.  Her band in London included two Aussie ex-pats – pianist Mark Fitzgibbon and vocalist Nichaud Fitzgibbon.

Ruth was introduced to the music of Nina Simone while in London and saw her perform live a number of times.  These experiences formed part of the inspiration for Ruth to put together a show about Nina and her music.

In this podcast from JOY 94.9 Ruth chats about her musical beginnings in London, the challenges of the music ‘industry’, and her show all about the life of the great entertainer and activist who was  Nina Simone.

Ruth is performing The Great Songs of Nina Simone at the Hawthorn Arts Centre on Friday October 20, 2023.

Ruth Rogers-Wright was guest of Bent Notes on Sunday October 15, 2023
