Gemma Farrell founded the Artemis Orchestra in 2017 with the objective to support and encourage people of marginalised gender (female, trans and non-binary) in their journeys as jazz musicians, soloists and composers.
Gemma spoke with David Moyle on Bent Notes upon the occasion of the release and imminent launch of their debut album – The Elephant In The Room – an album of music composed by West Australian female composers, played by West Australian Musicians.
Hear Gemma tell of the challenges for marginalised gender in traversing the pathway to becoming professional musicians, the joys of putting together this album and choosing the title, and selecting an all-female support act for the album launch on June 26 at The Rechabite in Perth.
Gemma Farrell was guest of Bent Notes on Sunday June 13, 2021
