The Elder Gamers

This week on the show, the Checkpoint team are joined by Romina, a PhD student part of Microsoft Research Centre for Social Natural User Interfaces at Melbourne University. She is doing a study on gamers over the age of 65 and how they interact with the medium of video games, particularly technologies that have a focus on social interactions. Social NUIs (Natural User Interfaces) explore human capabilities of movement, speech, touch and gaze, and facilitate human relationships through new and emerging technologies beyond the keyboard and mouse. Jakob, Archer and Meags talk about the usefulness of video games as a form of social interaction and discuss Romina’s research.

Also on the show, the news of the week brings a new PS4 to the table, and Jakob fights his way through his review of King of Fighters XIV! Don’t miss another great episode of your favourite gaming show!

If you want to know more about the study or have some feedback for Romina, be sure to shoot an e-mail to the Checkpoint team at: checkpoint@joy.org.au and we’ll be sure to pass it on to Romina.
