R18+ Rating and Classification

Video Games

This week on the show… Last week, Outlast 2, a horror game releasing next month, was refused classification here in Australia by the Australian Classification Board. Since then, the game has apparently received classification and will be released, but we’re not sure on the changes that will be made to the product.

Since the R18+ rating was introduced for video games back in 2013, there is still some confusion around the rules; can games still get banned, and if so, what for? Should games be banned at all when we have an R rating in place anyway? Why are movies allowed to show all sorts of violence and other adult content, but video games are held to a different scrutiny? Luke, Elliot, Fin and Viv sit down to discuss this topical issue in detail.

Also, two big reviews coming in the form of Styx: Shards of Darkness from Rachel and the verdict on NieR: Automata from Kieren – plus the news of the week! It’s all here in another episode of your favourite video game show!
