Checkpoint Intimates: The Loot Box Conversation

Checkpoint Intimates is a weekly podcast where two members of the team go one-on-one on a topic that they both feel strongly about, talking in a more deeper and, yes, intimate context.

On this episode, Elliot and Luke get stuck into the idea of “The Loot Box”. They seem to be a part of most multiplayer video games today, allowing players to purchase them for in-game or real currency in the hopes of receiving certain random goodies. More recently, it was revealed that Shadow of War, a primarly single player experience will have a Loot Box system.

What does this mean for video games moving forward? Should content be locked away in this random, expensive fashion, or should it all be accessible to everyone? Is it fair? We give our thoughts on the subject… but be honest with us – how many optional Loot Boxes have you bought?
