Checkpoint Intimates is a weekly podcast where two members of the team go one-on-one on a topic that they both feel strongly about, talking in a more deeper and, yes, intimate context.

This week, Elliot and Edie are on board to talk all about pre-emptive announcements. It’s been a big couple of weeks with E3 now in our rear-view mirror, but there are some video games that were announced with… no information at all? Just a title card for an upcoming video game, indicating that a game is at least going to happen at some point. Is this even an effective way to build hype for an upcoming game? Or is it just weird PR spin?

We talk about when is the best time to announce a game and what happens when you announce a game several years in advance? Building hype at the cost of misleading people to a timeline and the issues that can cause. Yes, we’re looking at you – Cyberpunk 2077, Elder Scrolls VI and Metroid Prime 4.
