People with depression and anxiety experience significant levels of stigma and discrimination. Often people find that the stigma can be worse than the illnesses themselves. This has a negative impact on the quality of life of people with depression and anxiety, and their carers, affecting access to treatment, employment, housing, insurance and personal relationships. This presentation will outline the different types of stigma, the complex nature of stigma and the evidence based learnings on stigma reduction for depression and anxiety.
