Dangerous Bedfellows: Hepatitis C and HIV

WARNING: This podcast contains course language and targeted sexual health information for gay men.

status-poster

In the past, sex was thought to be “low risk” for Hepatitis C. However the number of gay men and other men who have sex with men (MSM) getting Hepatitis C is on the rise, particularly among those men living with HIV.

HIV and Hep C co-infection is globally recognised as a major issue for people living with, and affected by HIV.  On World Hepatitis Day 2015, JOY 94.9 was proud to present this radio documentary produced by Living Positive Victoria and Hepatitis Victoria.

It’s possible that a person with HIV won’t know they have Hep C unless they are specifically tested. In Australia, it is estimated that about 13% of people with HIV also have Hep C and there is a steady rate of new Hep C infections being reported amongst men living with HIV.

Most of these men got Hep C through sex.
