Male Escorts and the Victorian Police

From tricks stealing money to being bashed and raped, gay male sex worker tend to be very reluctant to report crimes perpetrated against them.
Its fair to say that Male Escorts (as some prefer to known as) often have a strained relationship with the Police in Victoria, due in part to the legislation that governs sex workers in this state.
So what happens if you’re an escort and become a victim of sexual assault?  Will the Police take the matter seriously?  If you report a sexual assault, what can you expect?
The Police recognise that historically they might not have seemed very approachable on these and other matters.  On their request, Hide and Seek explores a new way forward at the intersection of gay sex workers and the police.

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Edebon has 33 years’ experience in Victoria’s Police force, the last 4 years spent as the Officer In Charge of Melbourne’s Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.

Sergeant Richard Farrelly has been in the Police Force for 22 years and gained the rank of Sergeant in 2006.  He has done it all, from general duties, Highway Patrol, Prosecutions, Transit Safety Division Plain Clothes Unit, Emergency Management, Riot and Crowd Control.  Currently he is Supervisor at the Sex Industry Coordination Unit

Sergeant Jackie Kline has 17 years’ experience in the force, the last 10 of which she has worked in Melbourne’s Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.

Leading Senior Constable Gabby Tyacke – known to many in the LGBTI community, Gabby’s career began working for the NSW Police.  Now with 15 years behind her, Gabby has been the North West Metro Gay and Lesbian Liaison Officer or GLLO for the last 8 years.
