Male Escorts and the Victorian Police

10 August

From tricks stealing money to being bashed and raped, gay male sex worker tend to be very reluctant to report crimes perpetrated against them.
Its fair to say that Male Escorts (as some prefer to known as) often have a strained relationship with the Police in Victoria, due in part to the legislation that governs sex workers in this state.
So what happens if you’re an escort and become a victim of sexual assault?  Will the Police take the matter seriously?  If you report a sexual assault, what can you expect?
The Police recognise that historically they might not have seemed very approachable on these and other matters.  On their request, Hide and Seek explores a new way forward at the intersection of gay sex workers and the police.
Tonight’s guests:

Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Edebon has 33 years’ experience in Victoria’s Police force, the last 4 years spent as the Officer In Charge of Melbourne’s Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.

Sergeant Jackie Kline has 17 years’ experience in the force, the last 10 of which she has worked in Melbourne’s Sexual Offences and Child Abuse Investigation Team.
